How to monitor torrent providers with RSS and Torznab (Jackett, Prowlarr)

Short answer

In TorMonitor, open Monitor in the sidebar and click Add provider. Choose Torznab API for Jackett or Prowlarr indexers, or RSS feed for any site feed, and paste the URL. TorMonitor checks each provider on a schedule, ranks them by uptime, latency, seeders and freshness, and lets you Follow the good ones to get one de-duplicated feed and a search across all of them.

If you follow releases from several sources, each one has its own site, feed and quirks, and some go offline without warning. TorMonitor's provider monitor watches them for you and tells you which ones are worth following.

Steps to add a provider#

  1. Click Monitor in the sidebar under Providers.
  2. Click Add provider.
  3. Choose the type:
    • Torznab API for any Torznab endpoint, such as a Jackett indexer (…/api/v2.0/indexers/<id>/results/torznab) or a Prowlarr indexer. Include your API key in the URL as Jackett or Prowlarr shows it.
    • RSS feed for a site's RSS feed, for example a "latest torrents" feed.
  4. Paste the URL, give the provider a name and save.
  5. Click Check all (or Providers ▸ Check All Providers Now) to test it immediately.
  6. Click Follow on the providers you want to use.

Reading the health dashboard#

Each provider is checked regularly (the default interval for new providers is set under Preferences ▸ Providers). The monitor shows, per provider:

ColumnMeaning
StatusOnline, Degraded or offline
UptimeShare of checks that succeeded
LatencyHow long the provider took to answer
Avg seedsAverage seeders of its recent items
Newest itemHow fresh its latest release is
Last checkWhen it was last checked

These combine into a score, and providers are listed best first. A provider that is often down or never has seeders sinks to the bottom, where it's easy to spot and remove.

What following gives you#

Followed providers feed three things:

  • All followed feeds (⌘ 2): one aggregated list of new items from every followed provider, with duplicates merged by info-hash or title.
  • Search (⇧ ⌘ F): one search across all followed providers.
  • Follow rules: automatic downloads of new items that match your filters. See how to auto-download torrents from RSS.
